About the project
The United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) works to rid the world of unexploded ordnance, with the goal of reaching that milestone within our lifetime. To raise awareness around the mission, we created an immersive experience that brought the reality of a minefield into the heart of New York City. At the New Museum, portraits by Marco Grob documented lives affected by landmines while a mobile experience used iBeacon technology to transform the gallery into a virtual minefield. As visitors moved through the space, simulated explosions revealed the human impact of landmines and prompted action. The exhibition went on to become a permanent installation at United Nations Headquarters in New York and tour internationally. Photography: Marco Grob
